The GMT-Master II Ref. 16710 holds a special place among collectors and enthusiasts of sports watches. Introduced in the late 1980s, this reference succeeded the 16760 (“Fat Lady”) by offering a slimmer case, a lighter bracelet, and enhanced versatility. The present model, dated 1989, belongs to the very first generation of the 16710, distinguished by its iconic black and red bezel, affectionately nicknamed “Coke” by the watch community.
The GMT-Master II was designed to allow pilots to track multiple time zones simultaneously. It features an independently adjustable GMT hand along with a bidirectional 24-hour rotating bezel, enabling the reading of a second—or even third—time zone.
This example showcases a deep black dial with applied luminous hour markers, protected by a sapphire crystal with the signature Cyclops magnifier at 3 o’clock. It is fitted with a stainless steel Jubilee bracelet, offering exceptional comfort and a distinctly vintage character.
